Ken Elmer
I’ve been in the art, design and creative field for most of my life, but just launched the first shows of my own photography in 2020. This is wonderfully new, fresh, and an exciting time to be showing my work.
The creative passion of the people of this world never ceases to amaze me. I’m inspired by the artist who feels the need to leave their mark on this place – who cannot sleep until that “it” is nurtured, molded, fine-tuned and then released into the wild. Whether that be photography, painting, sculpture, or garbage can art, it expands our brains and lightens our world. In trying times such as these (I’m writing this as I’m “sheltering in place” in the tragic Spring of 2020), art lets our souls breath and our minds wander.
I grew up in a very creative world, but have never really expressed that inner creativity until this latter part of life. My brother and I both grew up with music in our bones – he ran with that and became one of the world’s most defining rock voices in our generation. My brother, Layne Staley, was the lead singer of Alice In Chains, until his tragic passing back in 2002. I ran more to the business route and the occassional philosophy/theology degree, but did not pursue art and music where much of my heart lived. I hope to find that passion again now. I’ve spent too many years behind a desk and not enough time leaving my mark. But I’m getting closer. One photo at a time.
